Gosh I’m not even sure I should recommend this article because it quickly articulates ALL the pitfalls of work. How difficult it can be to get the right fit with a job and employer that leads to satisfaction not anxiety and frustration. Then Roxane Gay sticks in the sentence “This is not to say that work and misery are synonymous. The luckiest of us love our jobs and feel valued and respected and well compensated.” She goes on to ponder the questions of the American dilemma about obsession with work and why we value it so much, we stake most of our personal worth on it. But it seems that Covid changed the balance of power and freed working people to make courageous choices. She suggests that “we should take some time to reflect on who we are beyond what we do.” Now is the time.
Career thoughts: I’d add that the article articulates how important it is to be very intentional about your career plans. Check out www.nutritioncareerspathfinder.com to do a career assessment that may help you land in the enviable position of loving your job.
Yes, Your Job Is Important. But It’s not All-important.
